A Day in the Life of a Blonde

Just the mindless wanderings of a blonde!

In case you didn't notice, genius, I'm sick!

So today at work, I have all of my equipment set up and I'm just twiddling my thumbs until the lawyers get there. I have conventiently put the box of Kleenex that was in the room right next to me. I have a nasty cold. And, of course, being pregnant, I can't take DayQuil or anything for it, just suffer.

So in walks the lawyer, and she isn't looking so hot herself today. We have a quick chat, Hello, hello. Then she says, Oh, are you sick too? Yeah, I say, I have an pretty bad cold. She tells me she does too, and, in fact, she is so sick that she shouldn't even be here, but she doesn't think she will be long anyway, so she just wants to get this over with.

So we proceed with the Discovery. Everything is going along as normal until I feel like I HAVE to blow my nose or I will be in a lot of trouble. I feel a lull in the conversation as she and the other lawyer have just finished verbally abusing each other and they seem a little huffy in their own corners, so I proceed to go for the Kleenex. I manage to get one out of the box, almost up to my nose and -- she's into the questioning again. So I quickly put the Kleenex on my lap and continue to type (or write as us court reporters call it). I'm writing away and I feel what I think is another lull in the conversation (for the record, USUALLY when a lawyer hears or sees you grab a Kleenex they are nice enough to let you do your thing and then proceed). Just as I'm about to blow my nose -- another question. Ahhhh...I'm afraid if I don't blow my nose, and soon, it is going be running down my face -- ewwwww. So I wait for another lull, or so I thought I did. This time I manage to actually start blowing my nose, but did she wait for me to finish? Nope, she just kept on questioning. HELLLLLOOOOOO????? I only have two hands, and if they are busy blowing my nose...who is writing down the testimony? So I continue to blow my nose as fast as I can and she keeps on talking. I don't get it. She has been a lawyer for years...does she think the shorthand machine just does its own thing and I"m decoration? Anyway, that was frustrating. All I wanted to do was blow my nose. That's all.

I'm also thinking that she might not be the brightest lawyer...she was talking to me and I was standing up and I said something about the countdown until the baby is here being on and she said, Oh, you are pregnant? No, I just have a basketball under my shirt for the fun of it. Seriously, most people ask me if I'm due any day now, not IF I'm pregnant.

Anyway, that was my exciting day at work.

Signed,
Cranky Pregnant Lady

Fast food -- not an option.

That would be because I have food poisoning. We spent early Wednesday morning in Labour & Delivery (L&D) at the Rockyview because I was having contractions. Why was I having contractions, you ask? Because I was EXTREMELY dehydrated from throwing up and other bodily functions that cause you to lose liquids (I will spare you those details).

Brian got home from work Tuesday night and he was hungry. I wasn't feeling good. He made himself some dinner...I wanted to hurl. Finally at about 9:45 I decided to take a bath and see if I could relax me and baby and maybe feel better. At 10:00 I was sprinting for the toilet to throw up. I had to sprint to the downstairs bathroom because poor Brian doesn't do well with me throwing up. So I finished that lovely episode and came upstairs and tried to go to bed -- ha. Within a few minutes I was having contractions -- just lovely. So I spent the next few hours trying to get comfortable, but my contractions were every eight minutes apart. Finally at 2:30 I called the health link and told them all of the goings on in me and they told me to head to my delivering hospital. So we were off. After I had a quick shower -- I didn't want to offend (even though I'm sure I was nothing compared to some.)

We arrived at L&D just before 4 and I explained my symptoms. The nurse said, Oh, sounds like the flu, eh? So they took all of the samples they needed, blood, urine, and then hooked me up to monitors. I LOVE hearing my baby's heartbeat. It was so fun to listen to. Even after four hours of it I didn't get sick of hearing it. They hooked up a heart monitor for baby and one for me. The baby was initially under some stress until they got the IV in me and fluids going and the contractions stopped. But it was hilarious to hear the baby swimming around and then eventually it didn't like the monitor on it and it kept kicking it -- you could hear it! It managed to kick it off a few times. (our baby already has a sense of humour!)

So I am still nauseous and the nurse gives me Gravol, which kind of works, but kind of makes me feel nasty all over again. I felt much better once half of the IV solution was in me and I was hydrated more.

Finally my doctor shows up at around 7:30 and she checks everything out and asks me what I had eaten the day before. The only thing I had really eaten was Wendy's for lunch. (Grilled chicken sandwhich and a salad.) She figures it was food poisoning because I'm not achy like the flu, and it came on SO violently that she thinks it is food poisoning. Fantastic.

So she tells me I'm on bed rest for at least two days and to take it REALLY easy, because she doesn't want me going into labour yet (and I don't really want to be in labour yet.) So here I am, on bed rest (well, computer rest at the moment). I wasn't allowed to eat anything until 10:30 last night and my fabulous friend Sylvanna, brought me over the most amazing home-made chicken noodle soup! She is also bringing me dinner tonight -- she is such a sweetheart!

Anyway, that's what is going on now! Baby is sleeping, which is great, because he/she was awake for most of Wednesday night, and I think that wore her/him out.

So, the fun never ends at the Bohn home. I think I will go and sit on the couch for the afternoon now. I have never wished for cable until now...our four channels will have to do, though! Well, actually, we do have some movies, so maybe I"ll put one in.

Happy blogging!

Oh, where, oh, where...

Has my bellybutton gone? Oh, where, oh, where can it be?

Ha ha ha...

This is a totally disjointed blog today, because that's how I feel -- disjointed.

Anyway, I feel like I ran a pregnant lady's marathon today. I went our ward's mom 'n' tots playgroup this morning at 9:30, then Brian and I went to Costco, then I dropped him off at work and did some banking while I was there, then I went to Wal-Mart, then to Safeway, and now I'm home for a short while. In an hour we are meeting at the bank with our bank lady, then I'm coming home, making dinner for a pregnant friend that is on bed rest at the moment because she is only a few weeks along and she is spotting :(. and then I am off to my massage at 7:00. (BTW -- I have the best massage therapist, and she is TOTALLY reasonable, and she is amazing -- treat yourself, ladies!). And then I'm home for an evening of cleaning the house before my brother gets into town tomorrow night and stays with us.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH -- that's what I feel like saying right now.

Count down to the massage is on...4 and-a-half hours and waiting......

And...my cat is currently sniffing my armpit...can I help you? I know I put my deodrant on this morning...hmm....weird cat.
