A Day in the Life of a Blonde

Just the mindless wanderings of a blonde!

So what if Valentine's Day is commercialized.

I am sick of reading people's blogs and hearing people complain about how commercialized Valentine's Day is. Nobody is forcing you to spend money. And what the heck is wrong with a day to show your significant others in your life how much you love them? Yes, we should be showing it all year round (and I do), but why do people hate Valentine's Day SO much? To those people that complain about how commercialized it is, I says: Zip it, get over it, and suck it up. I will repeat again: Nobody is forcing you to spend money.

I have never personally had anyone from Hallmark or Bernard Callebaut chase me down, scare the PIN for my debit card out of me, and send me out of their store with a bag full of chocolate and me saying to myself -- dang, they got me AGAIN this year.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH -- why can't people just enjoy Valentine's Day?

I know I did.

EDIT*****

I guess people didn't get what I was trying to say. I was trying to make the point that you don't have to go out and spend money on Valentine's Day, you don't have to get flowers or chocolates. I never do because I think it is stupid to spend the money on things like because it is Valentine's Day. My husband and I have agreed not to spend money on Valentine's Day just because it is Valentine's Day. My point was no one is forcing you to spend money. You can celebrate the spirit of Valentine's Day, which is love, at home with a home-cooked dinner and nothing really fancy. But what is wrong with celebrating the love aspect of it? I feel it is REALLY commercialized, but so is every other holiday. I just don't get why people have to complain about Valentine's Day. I don't know why you wouldn't just choose not to participate in the commericial aspects of it but still enjoy a day to celebrate love.

Me too...my Valentine's Day was great!! I got to make chocolates, chocolate trifle and ganache for my family...we had a blast eating it all up! Valentine's, Easter, Christmas...hey, they are all commercialized but no one seems to care that much. I think you are taking it way too personally.

BTW...what is the problem that you seem to have with me? Really, I'd like to know. I don't believe I have done anything deserving of this post, nor of your behaviour in the past towards me. I just don't get it. Feel free to enlighten me.

I disagree with you - I totally think Valentine's Day is commercialised (that's how it's spelled here in Canada).

Huge companies jack up their prices to extort money out of people who just want to show that they care about each other.

I think I am going to forbid my husband from buying me the traditional roses and chocolate for Valentines day.

Did you know that the average price for roses nearly triples just for the big day??

So, let yourself be manipulated by "The MAN" into paying two or three times the amount for a "Valentine's" gift on February 14th...give in to their advertisements, allow yourself to be lead down the garden path.

Obviously you have your head in the sand when it comes to corporate advertising initiatives.

I, for one, don't intend to let anywone tell me when and where to spend MY hard earned money.

Holy crap! That's a lot of opinionation (sp?)

The thing I love about blogging is that it gives someone the freedom of writing whatever they want because it's personal and public all at the same time. If it's your opinion that V-Day is just fab the way it is than good-on ya'.
